Booking Management

Introduction

The Booking Management module of EcoSystem enables users to capture Test Environment (or more accurately “System Instance“) demand, supporting early contention analysis, ongoing analysis and ultimately shifting planning & coordination left to ensure operational readiness and disruption avoidance.

Module Navigation

In Enterprise this module has 3 key sub-trees Home + Reports + Management. Home is used for executive & activity dashboards, reports is insights focused and management is focused on adding/editing data (including forms) specific to that module.

Note: Non-Enterprise editions have a flat (non tree structure).

Home

Booking Dashboard

An executive dashboard providing an overarching view of your Environment Bookings.

Default Enterprise Location: Booking Management / Home

The dashboard is broken into 4 sections:

  1. Booking Headlines
  2. Booking Costing Breakdown
  3. Instance Demand by Booking
  4. Instance Demand

Section-1 Booking Headlines

Showing Confirmed Bookings, Unconfirmed Bookings, Booking Expiry Overdue & Booking Confirmations Overdue.

Usage

  • Banners are read only summaries.

Section-2 Booking Breakdown

Review & Compare your bookings.

Usage:

  • Use Tabs to toggle between Chart & Grid View
  • Use Keys to “Toggle” information on and off.

Example: View bookings “Duration Days”:

  • Grid View allows you to deep dive into any booking (Select Row & “View”)

Section-3 Instance Demand by Projects Bookings

Shows you the breakdown of “Instance” usage* by all bookings belonging to that project.

Note: Usage can be Code Change, Configuration Change or Regression (aka Touching).

Usage:

  • Read Only chart / Information purposes only.
  • Use Keys to “Toggle” information on and off.

Section-4 Instance Demand (Current & Upcoming)

In Chart View it shows Instance popularity by project (i.e. number of projects using it).

Usage:

  • Use Tabs to toggle between Chart & Grid View
  • Chart View is Read Only.
  • In Grid View you can lists & edit Booking

Booking Activity

An executive dashboard focused on booking activity.

Default Enterprise Location: Booking Management / Home

 Available in Enterprise Only.

The dashboard is broken into 2 sections:

  1. Executive Banner Buttons
  2. Table to view Selected Activities (New, Confirmed, Unconfirmed, Current Confirmed Instances and Upcoming Bookings Unconfirmed Instances).

Usage

  • Select “List” in a Banner Button to list objects
  • Select “Add” in a Banner Button to add a new object
  • View Object Information with the Editor (“View” Button).
  • If you only want to see activities belonging to you then use the “Green Button” (My Activities) to filter.

Reporting

Booking Insights

A report to analyse Booking Specific information.

Default Enterprise Location: Booking Management / Reports

This report has 3 sections:

  1. A “Booking” Selection Area
  2. A set of Banner Buttons showing Executive Booking details.
  3. Booking Status of each System Instance

Usage

  • Select Booking (Section-1)
  • Read-Only Section-2 (for Information Purposes Only)
  • Use Tabs to Toggle between Chart & Grid Views (Section-3)
  • In Charts, you can toggle information on and off (click on a box inside “key”)
  • In Grid Views, you can select a row and use “View” to deep dive into an Instance.

Release Bookings

A report to look at a “family” of projects bookings.

Default Enterprise Location: Booking Management / Reports

Note: Family is based on date/time range or Enterprise Release.

Usage:

  • Select Projects within a Date Range (1) or
  • Select Projects belonging to Enterprise Release (2)
  • Release Booking Gantt shows:
  • Projects (3)
  • Projects Bookings, of which a project may have many (4)
  • You can Edit / Deep dive into a project booking by clicking on Gantt Bar on right

Project Bookings

A report showing you Bookings & System Instances.

Default Enterprise Location: Booking Management / Reports

Usage:

  • Filter Bookings by Date Range (1) or
  • Filter by Select Projects and/or Systems (2)
  • Booking Gantt shows:
  • Booking (3)
  • System Instances belonging to that Booking (4)
  • You can Edit / Deep dive into an System Instance by clicking on Gantt Bar on right

Environment Bookings

A report to look at bookings across your Systems & Environment Lanes.

Default Enterprise Location: Booking Management / Reports

Usage:

  • Filter by System (1) or
  • Filter by Environment (2)
  • Environment Booking Gantt shows:
  • Booking (3)
  •  Instances belonging to that Booking (4) *This is hidden unless you select Expand (5)
  • You can Edit / Deep dive into an element by clicking on Gantt Bar on right.

Systems Bookings

A report focused on showing bookings from a System perspective.

Default Enterprise Location: Booking Management / Reports

Usage:

  • Filter by Date (1) or
  • Filter by Release & System (2)
  • System Booking Gantt shows:
  • System Instance (3)
  • Booking using that System Instance (4) & why e.g. Code, Config, Regression.
  • You can Edit / Deep dive into an element by clicking on Gantt Bar on right

Booking Queue Analysis

A report to better visualize usage / contention of system instances across bookings.

Default Enterprise Location: Booking Management / Reports

Usage:

  • Filter Bookings by Date Range (1) or
  • Filter by Enterprise Release (2)
  • (3) View System Instance Usage across all bookings within Range/Release defined.
  • You can Edit / Deep dive into a booking by clicking on it.

Booking Scope

A specialist report that allows you to  analyse a Booking’s Direct & Indirect “System Instance” touch points. This can be useful in ensuring that you correctly prepare environments with necessary upstream/downstream system instances.

Default Enterprise Location: Booking Management / Reports

Note: Direct are systems instances the booking explicitly stated it needs. Indirect are system instances that are “one-hop” removed i.e. systems instances talking to the directly booked system instances.

Usage:

  • Filter Bookings by Date Range (1) or
  • Filter by Booking Name (2)
  • (3) View System Instance demand across bookings (or the date range)
  • (4) View Relationship with other Up/Down Stream System Instances
  • You can Edit / Deep dive into a System Instance by clicking on its row.

Instance Usage

Shows each instances Usage (in past) & Demand (in future).

Default Enterprise Location: Booking Management / Reports

Usage:

  • Filter by System (1) and/or
  • Filter by Environments (2)
  • (3) View System Instance previous annual usage
  • (4) View Systems Instances upcoming usage / demand
  • Use Tabs to toggle between Chart & Grid View
  • You can Edit / Deep dive into a System Instance by clicking on its row & then “View”.

Instance Contention

A matrix report that allows you to see contention across your bookings and system instances. Gives you and your teams insight into potential risks and need for remediation.

Default Enterprise Location: Booking Management / Reports

Usage:

  • Filter by Date (1) and/or
  • Filter by Environments & Release (2)
  • Matrix shows which System Instances are being use by each booking.

Red – Code Change

Amber – Configuration Change

Green – Touching / Regression Test Only

Management

Manage Bookings

The “Manage Bookings” area inside the “Booking Management” module is the key place for adding and managing your Booking data.

Default Enterprise Location: Booking Management / Management

There are two sections to this dashboard:

  1. Executive Banner Buttons
  2. Table to view Selected Type (All. Confirmation Overdue, Open Bookings & Closed Bookings).

Usage

  • Select “List” in a Banner Button to list objects
  • Select “Add” in a Banner Button to add a new object
  • View Object Information with the Editor (“View” Button).
  • If you only want to see bookings belonging to you then use the “Green Button” (My Bookings) to filter.

Booking Form

A form so customers can raise test environment booking requests.

Default Enterprise Location: Booking Management / Management

This form has 4 sections:

  • Section-1 Is the standard input form.
  • Section-2 Allows you to reference previous Service Request.
  • Section-3 Shows your booking (inc Instances) and its contention with other bookings. Note: Contention/Sharing isn’t necessary bad, but you should be aware of the fact.
  • Section-4 Shows this Projects Existing Bookings. This prevents you accidentally duplicating a booking that already exists.

Usage (Section-1)

  • Enter Project Name
  • Enter Test Phase
  • Enter Environment (aka Lane)
  • Select Start & End Date/Time of Booking
  • Identify Systems Requirements (Code, Config & Regression)
